lime water

lime water is a 100% natural varnish resulting from lime quenching which is used to create patinas, consolidate whitewashes, stones, frescoes. The water is used to extinguish quicklime and it is during this extinction, when a strong heat is released, that this water becomes charged with calcium hydroxide to form lime water. Then when it is used, lime water reacts with carbon dioxide in the air to form calcium carbonate (caco3, calcite found at the end of stalactites in caves) which is then freezes on the surface to form a transparent limestone.

This is what allows us to use it as a patina fixer, plaster consolidator and flouring whitewashes, damaged stone consolidator, and stone protector, fresco decorations. It is also possible to dilute pigments in lime water to make fresco decorations, however the colors will be very slightly less vibrant than with normal water, the advantage in this case being that we will be sure that the pigment will be fixed if one feels that the plaster is less amorous.

covering patina with lime water: 1 volume of pigment for 5

lime water less covering patina: 1 volume of pigments for 10 lime water, you can increase for more transparency

lime water is therefore remineralizing and recalcifying and also has an interest in construction for the humidification of supports for the realization of whitewashes, stucco and tadelakts
